Career
From May 1971 until September 1972
I worked for GEC Telecommunications Ltd at Newton Aycliffe as a Design Engineer in the Test Equipment Department. Work entailed the design, construction and implementation of electronic equipment which tested to GPO specification, manufactured items such as telephone dials, extension plinths, handsets, loud-speaking telephones etc.
From August 1973 until December 1977
I was a mathematics teacher at Wyggeston Boys School (later Wyggeston Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College) Leicester. Teaching all aspects of pure and applied mathematics up to University entrance level.
From January 1978 until October 1980
I worked for British Aerospace as an Avionics Instructor at King Faisal Air Academy, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Responsible for instructing Pilot Cadet Officers of the Royal Saudi Air Force in electrical/electronic systems connected with military aircraft (Cessna 172; BAC Strikemaster; BAC Lightning). Work involved course development, implementation and monitoring of classroom progress.
